Historical Tour of the Dark Side of York’s Past
York is an old city. Its history stretches back over 1900 years.
In that time it has seen more than its fair share of darkness.
Invasion by the Romans and the Vikings, civil wars and deadly plagues, massacres like we have never known. Each has cast its shadow and carved its mark on the ancient streets of Eboracum. And they are still there if you look hard enough, the stories…now just a whisper, but speaking out all the same! Are you prepared to listen?
For the most part these horrors stay safely in the past. Lost but not entirely forgotten. There is a darkness here in York like none we have seen before. Haunted? Perhaps…but that’s not where the shadows hide. If you want to see something really weird then you better start looking at history or you might just miss the good stuff!
The York Terror Trail is here for those who wish to see those sights and learn those secrets that most people would rather forget.
Join us every night at 6:45 from The Golden Fleece to experience the dark and twisted history of York for yourself! See the city in a different light, uncovering secrets that have been hidden for centuries, ones which perhaps should have stayed secret. Because often we find that secrets are hidden everywhere, and some of them really ought to have been kept…
Throughout June and July we are running a special offer! Adults get on the tour for the price of a child. Only available when you book online! To redeem your discounted ticket click on the link at the top off the page!!
The tour begins at 6.45pm, every day of the week, from York’s most haunted pub, The Golden Fleece.
From there we reach out into the dark menacing streets of the oldest parts of York, uncovering stories as we go. Prepare yourself for gruesome contact with the history of some of this city’s most famous past inhabitants.
Guy Fawkes, Margaret Clitherow and others whose suffering has been lost in time. But their stories remain.
